It all comes down to bottle
So as the final denouement of the season unravels it seems a good time to look at who are the champs and who are the chumps. It's a long old season for us footy fans and all that emotion you've invested and all that coin you've spent all comes down to the last three or four games because, as they say, second place is first loser.
Have Arsenal fallen at the second to last hurdle? Arsene Wenger's young guns who've won so many plaudits this season for their purist attacking football haven't quite had the stamina to go that final furlong. No more was this demonstrated than at Old Trafford the other day when despite giving themselves a lead they went on to concede two second half goals to their arch rivals.
And Avram Grant's Chelsea - what were they thinking letting in a 92nd minute equaliser at home to lowly Wigan. Probably a nail in their Premier league coffin this season as Manchester United seem certain to romp home now and you'd not bet against them beating them at the Bridge.
And yet the margin between winning and losing can often be so infinitesimally small that it ultimately doesn't come down to skill or tactics but it's actually bottle. Do you have it or not - have you the self belief in the face of adversity and love him or loathe him Sir Alex Ferguson seems to have it in spades and as such that's why the Premier league once again seems destined for Manchester.
